Where to Eat: The Best Restaurants in Selong Belanak, Lombok

Selong Belanak is a charming seaside town on the south coast of Lombok. Away from the hustle of Kuta, with one of the best beaches around, Selong Belanak is fast becoming a favourite among people looking for a more authentic Indonesian experience.

Today, we’re breaking down the best places to eat in Selong Belanak. Whether you’re staying here or making the trip over from nearby Kuta, there are plenty of amazing places to eat. Some you can’t miss, but others are little hidden gems! Either way, we’ve got you covered with the best restaurants in Selong Belanak.

Warungs and Local Eateries

Wondering where to eat in Lombok? If you’re travelling on a budget, you'll want to understand warungs. These local-style restaurants are often still tailored to Westerners, especially in southern Lombok. So expect menus written in English and food that is not too spicy.

Here, you can eat local food, Selong Belanak style, at great prices. Most establishments will prefer cash. If you want to pay with a card, check if they accept them before you sit down.

Popular local dishes include gado-gado (a peanut sauce-laden pile of vegetables with boiled eggs and tempeh), ayam taliwang (spicy chicken) and nasi goreng (fried rice with various toppings such as fish, prawns or tofu).

Warung Corner

This was our go-to for local food in Selong Belanak when we stayed at Mango Lodge. Cheap, simple food that is done well. The staff are friendly and happy. I highly recommend the veggie curry and the gado-gado.

Moda Warung

We like this little corner of the beach as it’s right at the end of the row of restaurants. A little quieter and less hustle from the team trying to get you to hire a sunbed or a surfboard. Once you hit the beach, turn right and walk until just before you get to Laut Biru.

Beachfront Dining

When coming to one of the best beaches in southern Lombok, why not enjoy your food on the beach? To get to the beach, you’ll park your scooter in a narrow laneway that doubles as a parking lot. Expect to pay 10,000 Rupiah ($0.60 USD) to the attendants.

You’re in the middle of a row of buildings when you enter the beach. Each is a surf rental/surf school/warung/juice bar. The Indonesians sure are entrepreneurial. If you're after local food, our pick is Moda Warung above.

However, there are some higher-end options available.

Laut Biru

Eating breakfast with sand between your toes and waves crashing in the background. Sounds like an ideal part of any holiday. Laut Biru gives you that option with a range of a la carte or breakfast set options. And not a plastic straw in sight. This is one of my favourite Selong Belanak restaurants.

Lantis Bar and Restaurant

This expansive beach club recently opened at the far southern end of the beach. It’s almost empty of guests, so it is a good option if you’re looking for somewhere more chilled than the warungs.

There’s no charge to use the loungers but you are expected to purchase from their menu.

There’s also a pool onsite if the ocean is too big or it’s low tide.

Hidden Gems

These are some of our other favourite Selong Belanak restaurants, tucked down side roads, hidden behind unassuming gates, or off the beaten path.

Klub Kembali

Love cocktails? Make sure you head to Klub Kembali and check out their extensive menu. Owner Daniel always experiments, so you will surely find something that surprises you. They also have a Wheel of Fortune, where you can get discounted drinks if you have whatever your spin lands on!

Mango Lodge

Built over three levels, this hotel is a great mid-range place to stay in Selong Belanak. The restaurant, perched on the top floor, is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and, of course, sundowners. Owned by a Spaniard, the menu is tapas-style (definitely order the whipped feta and eggplant), allowing you to graze on various small plates.

Three Sisters

Tucked off the main road, Three Sisters will help relieve that craving for dumplings we all get. You know the one.

The menu is small but has enough variety to keep everyone happy. There are also clearly marked vegetarian and vegan options.

Did you know you can make chocolate wontons? It's possibly my new favourite dessert.

Final Note

Selong Belanak’s local food scene continues to expand, offering a range of local and international dishes. Whether you’re staying here or visiting from Kuta, you’re bound to find something to satiate your taste buds.

And new restaurants are always opening! Let us know in the comments below if there is somewhere else we need to check out.
